Why Worry? How Letting Go of Control Can Bring You Peace

Why Worry? How Letting Go of Control Can Bring You Peace

Let’s talk about it…

We’ve all been there.
Lying awake at night, replaying conversations.
Overthinking what could go wrong.
Trying to plan, control, and worry our way into a better tomorrow.

But here's the thing...

"If you have a problem and can do something about it—why worry?  If you can't do anything about it—why worry?"

That simple flowchart of logic, rooted in ancient wisdom, offers a truth we often forget: worry doesn’t change the outcome—it only steals the moment.

In this post, we’re breaking down the real cost of worry, why we try to control things we can’t, and how to release what’s not yours to carry. Let’s breathe into the shift together.

The Control Trap: Why We Worry in the First Place

Most of us weren’t taught to trust life—we were taught to manage it.

We learned that if we could just stay ahead—be nice enough, quiet enough, productive enough—we could avoid disappointment, rejection, or pain.
But that constant need to control creates a chronic sense of unease.

Worry becomes the background music of our lives.
And over time, we start to believe it’s just “who we are.”

But guess what? That’s not your truth. That’s your trauma.
And healing means learning to release control so you can finally rest.

What Worry Does to Your Mind, Body & Spirit

Worry doesn’t just live in your mind—it lives in your body.

You feel it in your shoulders, your stomach, your breathing.
You might grind your teeth, lose sleep, or feel easily overwhelmed.

And spiritually?
Worry creates distance between you and your intuition.
Between you and the present moment.

You start to feel like you’re surviving life—not living it.

“Don’t worry that your life is turning upside down.  How do you know the side you’re used to is better than the one to come?” ~ Rumi

Let that land. Sometimes the discomfort is just the cocoon. The transformation.
And your only job? Stay present for it.

Real Talk: My Own Journey with Worry

Let me be real with you for a second…
There was a time in my life when I worried about everything. Bills. Relationships. Deadlines. Family expectations. Social media. You name it.

I thought that if I just stayed “on top of it,” I’d avoid the breakdown.

But what I learned the hard way is that you can’t “hustle” your way into peace.
You have to choose it.

And that choice came the moment I stopped asking, “What if it goes wrong?” and started asking,
“What if it goes right?”

That one shift changed everything for me—and it can for you too.

3 Questions to Ask When Worry Tries to Take Over

Next time anxiety creeps in, try this simple self-check:

  1. Is this something I can control?
If yes, take action. If no, release it.

  2. What is this worry costing me right now?
    Peace, focus, sleep, joy?

  3. What would it look like to trust this moment instead?
Even in uncertainty, you are still guided.

Write these down. Say them out loud.
Let them become your anchors when life gets heavy.

Try This: A Soulful Body Reset Practice

Let’s do a quick check-in together:

🧘🏾♀️ Take a deep breath…
Drop your shoulders.
Unclench your jaw.
Put one hand over your heart.

Now say this with me:

“I release what’s not mine to carry.  I return to my center.  I choose peace over panic.”

Repeat that as often as you need to. That’s not weakness—that’s wisdom.

Final Word: Release the Illusion, Reclaim Your Power

Beloved, you were not created to carry the weight of the world.
You were designed to flow with it.
To trust the process, even when it’s messy.
To breathe through the unknown and rest in divine timing.

So today, I invite you to take your hands off the wheel and lean into faith.
Not blind faith—but bold, grounded trust in what’s possible when you stop trying to force the outcome and start showing up for the moment.

"Peace is not the absence of problems, it's the presence of perspective."
~ Unknown

You are safe to let go.
You are safe to trust.
You are safe to breathe.
